Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Bongo Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam, known as Akon, is a Senegalese American R&B and hip hop recording artist, songwriter, and record producer.
He is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice. Akon has had four songs certified as 3x platinum, three songs certified as 2x platinum, more than ten songs certified as 1x platinum and more than ten songs certified as gold in digital sales. Akon has sung songs in other languages including Tamil, Hindi and Spanish. He was listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the #1 selling artist for master ringtones in the world
Akon grew up in Senegal before he and his family returned to the United States and settled in New Jersey when he was seven. While in Jersey City, he discovered hip-hop for the first time by the time he started hanging around with local thugs crowd. Initially attended Snyder High School, the boy did everything against the school regulation and was kicked out after busted for selling guns, bullet and test questions for every test.
Trouble seems to follow Akon wherever he goes. In this case, it was in Denmark. A riot erupted a free concert Akon was putting on at a mall in Copenhagen.
Luckily this time, there was no on stage humping, or people may have puked up their Wetzel's Pretzel. A fire alarm went off when Akon was only three songs into his set, and police tried to evacuate the mall, angering fans, and thus resulting in a riot.
People started throwing rocks and drinks at the law enforcers. Who has rocks inside a mall?! Luckily no one was seriously injured.
Akon's new single "So blue" has been released.
The new track is co-written by Claude Kelly and co-produced by Jerry Duplessis. Its Robby Starbuck-directed video features actors Tommy Lister and Rose Rollins alongside Akon, read a statement from Universal Music that has released the single.
"So blue" serves as a prelude to Akon's forthcoming fourth full length album set for release early 2014 via Republic Records.
