Nazriya Nazim is an Indian actress who appears in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. She used to be a TV show anchor before she pursued her career as a lead actress. She also did few films as a child artist in Malayalam. Nazriya was born to Nazim and Beena. She has brother, Naveen. Nazriya studied in Christ Nagar School, before she was a student of Our Own English High School, Al Ain. She has stated that she wants to study something related to business and that she may take up either a Commerce or BBA course. In 2013, she joined Mar Ivanious College in Thiruvananthapuram, for BCom, but reportedly left the college, owing to her tight shooting schedules.[ Her family lived previously in Al Ain, UAE, before moving to Thiruvananthapuram.
Starting her career in 2006 as a child artist, she acted in a Malayalam film Palunku (2006) directed by Blessy, in which she played the daughter of Mammootty's character. She went on to become an anchor on Asianet's music reality television show, Munch Star Singer. Mohanlal-starrer Oru Naal Varum (2010) was her next venture, in which she played the role of Dhanya, the daughter of Sreenivasan's character. She also did a supporting role in the Mammootty-starrer Pramani. Nazriya was cast in an album titled Yuvvh by Sony Music Entertainment, which became very popular among the youth.
Nazriya Nazim is gearing up for the release of her third 'direct' Tamil film. Nazriya had an amazing year in 2013 wherein she tasted success as well as received some bad press for raisinng what seemed an 'unwarranted' controversy in respect of her film Naiyaandi.
Nazriya said that Sarkunam, director of Naiyaandi, had shot a sequence which exposed her midriff and navel. Though she didn't shoot for that particular song, a 'body double' was used in her place without getting her consent, she had said. She even lodged complaints with Producers' Council and with the police and withdrew them finally after watching the film and feeling convinced that the sequence was 'acceptable' to her.
Addressing newsmen at the meet-the-press event which was convened in the city on the eve of release of her upcoming film Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah. When the press wanted her views on the Naiyaandi controversy, Nazriya said she was here to talk only about her upcoming film and not about Naiyaandi."The controversy, however, helped me in many respects as film-makers relaized what sort of roles are to be offered to me," she said laughing.
Nazriya Nazim seems to have probably committed biggest mistake of her career. The actress, who created a controversy prior to the release of Naiyaandi, is unofficially banned from Tamil film industry. Her decision to put the movie in trouble in the last minute has not gone well with local filmmakers. This will eventually restrict her to Mollywood, according to industry insiders. Many thought that Nazriya Nazim created the unnecessary controversy for publicity. Now, it appears like the incident was true and this might prove her costly.
According to the news doing rounds on social networking sites, Bollywood's most wanted director Zoya Akthar has evinced a keen interest in Nazriya for her upcoming outing. However, the news has been confirmed neither by the director nor by the actress.
Meanwhile, Nazriya is currently busy with Dulquer starrer Salaala mobiles and Nivin Pauly starrer Om Shanthi Oshana.
While shooting for her bilingual film Vaai Moodi Pesavum with Dulquer Salman, actress Nazriya Nazim met with a small accident in Munnar.
As per reports, the actress lost control of a scooter that she had to drive for a sequence. After the recent spurt of rains, roads had been quite slippery and wet in these areas. Nazriya was soon rushed to hospital and her she is recuperating. With numerous films across industries in her kitty, she can't afford to waste days on the hospital bed, of course.
Today (19.1.2014) Nazriya Nazim officially announced that she got engaged with Fahadh Faasil in her Facebook Page. She said that
Friends..
