Genelia D'Souza (born 5 August 1987[1]) is an Indian film actress, model, and host. She has appeared in South Indian cinema and Bollywood films. After gaining wide attention in a Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan, Genelia began her acting career with Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. She was recognized for her role in Boys the same year, and later established herself in Telugu cinema by acting in several Telugu films during 2003–2005.
Genelia received her first Filmfare Award in 2006 for her performance in the Telugu romantic film, Bommarillu, which earned her critical acclaim. In 2008, she gave critically acclaimed performances in Santosh Subramaniam, a Tamil remake of Bommarillu, and the Bollywood movie Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. Having acted in several commercially successful movies in Telugu and Tamil, Genelia has established herself as one of the leading actresses of the South Indian film industry. In addition to movie acting, Genelia has hosted the television show Big Switch, and is the brand ambassador of Fanta, Virgin Mobile India, Fastrack, LG Mobiles, Garnier Light, Margo, and Perk in India.
Tusshar revealed a rather embarrassing incident - one that left everyone gagging with laughter. "I was shooting for a scene in which my onscreen friend, who is in coma, starts grooving to music in his unconscious state. He falls on me while in the act and his body starts shaking! It was precisely at that moment, that Genelia came in to the room and was shell-shocked seeing me in this compromising position", he said. And what was her reaction? "She just winked and said lage raho! We bet Genelia was just happy that it wasn't Riteish you were 'compromising' with. He, he!
While speculation is rife about Genelia D'Souza doing a cameo in Sohail Khan's 'Jai Ho', TOI has it that Genelia has almost finished shooting her portion which is not a special appearance but a well-developed role that will extend beyond the interval. The film co-stars Salman Khan, Daisy Shah and Sanaa Khan. Genelia was spotted on the set in a wheelchair. Says a source close to the unit, "It's a challenging role and Genelia surprised everyone by canning her shots in one or two takes "
There is a buzz that Genelia plays the role of Salman's sister in the film. The film, a remake of the South hit 'Stalin', is directed by Sohail Khan. Besides Salman, the film stars Tabu, Sana Khan, Ashmit Patel, Sunil Shetty and others, and is scheduled to release on January 24 this year.
