Jung So Min (Hangul: 정소민; born Kim Yoon-ji on March 16, 1989) is a South Korean actress. She immediately attracted attention when she made her acting debut in 2010 with a supporting role in the television series Bad Guy. This led to a leading role in her next project Playful Kiss, the Korean adaptation of the popular manga Itazura na Kiss. Though it received low ratings in Korea, the fame of her costar Kim Hyun-joong made the romantic comedy popular overseas, further raising Jung's profile. She then took a short break in 2011 to concentrate on her studies at the Korea National University of Arts. In 2012 she returned to the small screen as part of the ensemble cast of the sitcom Standby. Later that year, she played a more adult role opposite Sung Joon in the cable series Can We Get Married?
Jung So Min is known for starring in the role of Hong Mo-nae on the SBS drama Bad Guy. She is the leading lady of the MBC drama Playful Kiss, alongside with Kim Hyun Joong. She studied ballet in elementary and middle school. In high school she studied Korean traditional dance.
Jung So Min says that if she had continued to dance, she would like to have traveled to other countries to spread Korean traditional dance. She attended Korea National University of Arts majoring in acting. She is also known for her striking resemblance to Yoon Eun Hye.
Jung So Min is currently acting in the cable drama Can We Marry, which is heading into its finale… now. As in, today, almost right this minute. The show is hovering just under the 3% mark on JTBC, which may not be the incredible 8% ratings posted by Childless Good Fortune—8%, yowsa—but is still a strong showing.
On to the interview:
What’s your real-life dating style?
“I go all-in to the relationship and the boyfriend. I don’t understand why couples have to do their ‘push-pull’ [akin to playing hard to get]—if you like each other you like each other, and if you don’t you don’t.” You entered Korea National University of Arts at the very top of the class, you’re on a roll, your life is going straight ahead without any twists. “I’ve had instances of being envious of people whose lives have taken winding curves. People who have had rich life experiences or come up against difficult times can draw on those to help in acting. So I was envious of them, but I came to the realization that I think the answer is to act in accordance with your experience.”
